Crete in April: When the Island Awakens
April is when Crete begins to bloom. Wildflowers blanket the hillsides, citrus blossoms perfume the air, and the island settles into the gentle rhythm of spring before the summer crowds arrive.
In the villages, café terraces fill once again, doors and windows stand open to the sunshine, and everyday life unfolds outdoors
Our April retreat is built around that rhythm. You spend the week as a guest, not a visitor, sharing meals, wandering through villages, meeting local artisans, and experiencing Crete as it is lived—not simply seen
Fresh seasonal food, meaningful conversations, and time that is never rushed
April in Crete is fresh, welcoming, and quietly unforgettable.
Dates: April 14 to April 21, 2027
Retreat begins: Wednesday, April 14 at 3:00 PM
Retreat ends: Wednesday, April 21 at 12:00 PM

Wednesday – Arrival & Village Welcome
We arrive in Kalyves and settle into our villas among olive trees and sea air.
That evening, we gather for a welcome dinner at a seaside restaurant known for its exceptional local dishes — fresh fish, garden vegetables, and Cretan wine — and begin our week together in the heart of Crete.

Thursday – Ancient Crete: Myths & Memory
We start our journey with a visit to Aptera, one of Crete’s most storied ancient cities, standing high above the bay.In the afternoon, we wander through Chania’s old town, where Venetian walls and narrow lanes tell centuries of history.
We visit the Archaeological Museum and end the day by the harbor, watching the light fade over the sea.

Friday – Olive Oil & Distillery
In the morning, we visit a family-run olive oil producer, learning how generations have tended the same groves.
In the afternoon we meet Giannis at Peroulakis distillery. He is talking about Raki, the unique drink of Crete and taches us to make Raki with Honey
Saturday – Rest, Walk & Gather
We begin with a slow morning at the villa, with time to rest, read, or sit with coffee, followed by an easy walk into the village and down to the sea at our own pace.
In the evening, we gather back at the villa for a homemade dinner and music, a simple night shared together.
Sunday – Monastery & Old Town Rethymnon
We travel through the hills to Arkadi Monastery, a place of deep history and peace.
In the afternoon, we walk through Rethymnon’s old town, moving slowly through its narrow streets before ending the day by the harbor.
Monday – Art, Taste & Tradition
We spend the morning by the sea for a watercolor art session inspired by Cretan life and light. You'll have a personal souvenir to remind you of your week of experiences.
In the afternoon, we visit Vegera Farm, where we learn to cook with local ingredients and old recipes — hands-on, warm, and shared.
We end the day gathered around the table with local musicians from the village, eating, drinking, and singing the way Cretans do — with joy that comes straight from the heart.
Tuesday – Free Morning & Winery
The morning is free, time to rest, walk, or return to the sea at your own pace.
In the afternoon, we visit Dourakis Winery for a tasting surrounded by vineyards and mountain views — a quiet celebration of Crete’s land and people.
Wednesday – Farewell Morning
We share our farewell breakfast in the village before saying our goodbyes.
We leave Crete with the scent of thyme, the echo of bells, and a feeling of connection that will stay long after the week has passed.
